Official RROL 2010 Season Rules


The rules that follow are meant only to be a guideline and amendments may occur to accommodate any extenuating circumstances that may occur at a racing event.

General
1. All cars must be in a safe working condition as per the race director.
2. The club will not supply AC power to racers.
3. Any penalties given during a racing event will be determined among the race director.
4. Rained out events will be officially called as such by 7:00am by the race director.
5. It is the responsibility of the racer to remove all garbage from the pit area before leaving the track. A waste container will be provided in the centre of the pit area.
6. At no time is it permitted to dispose of any fluids, oils, fuel, cleaning solvents or other liquids anywhere on the property. Liquid waste can be dumped into the waste container. Racers are advised to use rags or paper towels to absorb any small accidental liquid spillage in their working pit area or in pit lane.

Registration

  1. Setup crew is to arrive at 8:30am on race day.
  2. Registration will open at 9:30am
  3. Registration will close at 10:30am.
  4. Entry Fees:
    Single Driver: First Class: $15.00, Second Class: $5.00, additional classes $NO CHARGE
    Family Drivers: Senior family member $15.00, Junior** Family Member: $5.00, Third or More Family Members or additional classes: $5.00 each.
  5. Cars are not permitted to run on the track until they are registered into a class.

** Junior or additional family members = a person under 18 years directly related to the "Senior" driver.

Classes
 
1/10 Scale 200mm Nitro Touring Car: (Class will be designated NTC)
1. Body Restrictions: ROAR approved (See approved list) (T-2) closed-wheel 2 or 4 door 200mm body, representing any commercially available vehicle. GTP, Sports Cars, GT or “Lola” racing bodies are prohibited. Windows should be clear or lightly tinted.
2. Chassis Restrictions: Maximum width of 200 mm. Must be a production rolling chassis.
3. Engine Restrictions: Maximum displacement of 2.11cc (.129 c.i.) small block. (Chassis kits with included small block .15 c.i. will be allowed but if replaced must be .12 c.i.)
4. Exhaust System Restrictions: Must be a production exhaust system.
5. Tire Restrictions: There is no restriction on tire size or compound.
 
1/10 190mm Rubber Electric Touring Car (Class will be designated ETC):

6 cell NiMh, or 2C LiPo 7.4v battery with 19T or lower brushed motor, or no greater than 17.5 brushless motor.  ROAR minimum weight of 1418g– random checks of any car ·Race length is 6 minutes or as announced for specific events.

1. Body Restrictions: ROAR approved (See approved list) (T-2) closed-wheel 2 or 4 door 190mm body, representing any commercially available vehicle. GTP, Sports Cars, GT or “Lola” racing bodies are prohibited. Windows should be clear or lightly tinted.
2. Chassis Restrictions: Maximum track width of 190mm. Must be a production rolling chassis.
3. Motor Restrictions:
ROAR approved 17.5 brushless motors are legal

4. Tire Restrictions: Rubber tires must be used - no foams. Any traction additive may be used on the tires before entering the track. 
5. Batteries: Batteries will be limited to ROAR approved 6 cell NiMh or ROAR approved 2C hard case Lipo batteries. When using lipo battery packs you will still be required to meet the minimum weight of 1418g.

Tamiya M-03 (Class will be designated as MINI)

For 2010 the 25.5 BL HobbyWing Spec motor and ESC combination is the preferred power source, however stock silver can M-03 cars are allowed.

Teching
Teching may be done for the 19T class and the M-class randomly at any time.
It is suggested that anyone who is in doubt about the legality of their car see the race director before the first qualifier to ensure that their car is legal.

Radio Equipment
1. All radios must run on the same frequency as was registered with.
2. All 27mhz & 75 mhz radios must comply with the frequency control system during practice sessions.
3. Only racers who are on the drivers stand can turn on a radio unless it is a 2.4ghz radio.

Practice
1. Practice sessions will occur once before the qualifying sessions start, and may occur before the main races.
2. A maximum of 10 racers are to be on the track at any time. Practice sessions may be grouped by class at the race directors descretion.
3. All racers with 27mhz & 75 mhz radios may be required to have a frequency clip as explained in Radio Equipment 2.
4. Controlling cars on the track from anywhere other than the drivers stand is prohibited.
5. At no time is any car to be operated in any area other than on the enclosed race track, specifically, no car may be operated in the pit area or any area on the property of Home Depot other than on the enclosed race track.

Race Length
1. The length of the qualifying rounds is as follows:
NTC: 5 minutes.
All Electric : 6 minutes (Except VTA = 5 min).
2. The length of the main races is as follows:
All Electric: 6 minutes - Except VTA = 5 minutes

NTC Mains will be minimum 15 minutes**

All Nitro races will be “rolling” starts – procedure to be reviewed at driver’s meeting

Qualifying
1. Qualifying will start when the club staff is prepared and all racers have been processed and the qualifying order has been posted.
2. All racers must check the print out of the heats before the sessions start.
3. It is the responsibility of the racer to notify the club staff of any errors in the heat listing posted at the drivers stand.
4. The start of the qualifying heats will be staggered. Each car in the heat will start 2 seconds apart.
5. The end of the race is staggered and each car will be allowed to finish the complete time.
6. After the completion of the race; each racer must return their car and transmitter to their pit, and be prepared to marshal the next heat.
7. No more than 10 cars in each heat.
8. All drivers should remain at the drivers stand during the entire race.
9. Any refuelling or repairs must be completed by your designated pit crew person who is not participating in that race.
10. No major repair work may be done by marshals. Repair work done by crew members must be done off of the racing area, outside of the perimeter barrier.
11. Car numbering and class stickers may be used for scoring purposes. If used, cars must display the assigned number on the left side of the front windshield.
 

Mains
1. All racers must check the print out of the mains before the races start.
2. It is the responsibility of each racer to notify the race director of any errors in the mains listing posted.
3. The cars will be grided, spaced a minimum of 6' apart according to their qualifying position The race start will be en masse. A horn will sound and all cars will start together.

3b. Nitro mains may, as a result of the nitro driver's meeting decision, use a "rolling start" where the TQ car slowly leads the group single file in order of qualifying, onto the straight and the race starts when the race director or flagman is satisfied with the car spacing and order, and the flagman then waves the green and/or the race director says"GO".

. Any car deemed by the race director to have "jumped the start" may, at the discretion of the race director, be penalized with a stop and go penalty.
5. The end of the race will occur when all of the cars have completed their final lap.
6. After the completion of the race; each racer must return their car and transmitter to their pit, and prepare to marshal the next race.
7. No more than 10 cars in each heat.
8. All drivers should remain at the drivers stand during the entire race. Any refueling or repairs should be completed by a pit crew person who is not participating in the race.

Refueling Procedure
1. Cars may be "topped up" outside of the racing surface in pit lane with the car completely over the pit wall, just before the start of the race.
2.
Refueling during the race must be done in the designated pit lane area with the car completely over the pit wall.   
3. Care must be taken to avoid fuel spillage
4. A fire extinguisher may be provided in the refueling area
5. Cars entering the track from the pit lane must yield to racing traffic. 


Drivers Etiquette
1. All drivers are expected to act in a mature fashion.
2. Deliberate damage to other cars on the track will result in a penalty.
3. Drivers shall not shout or use profanity while on the drivers stand. These actions may result in a penalty.
4. Slower traffic on the track must allow faster cars past with minimal restriction.
5. Cutting a track barrier intentionally, may result in a penalty.
6. All drivers must be tolerant of younger and/or newer drivers. 

Championship Points
1. Points for all classes is as follows: (May 2010)

Qualifying: The first 15 positions in each class at the end of the qualifying rounds will receive points as follows:
Top Qualifier = 20 points
2nd Qualifier =19 points
3rd Qualifier = 18 points
And so on down to the 15th qualifier = 6 points

Mains:
1st Position overall = 80 points
2nd Position overall = 79 points
3rd Position overall = 78 points etc.
And so on until there are no more points remaining.

2. Points will be awarded based on the position in the mains.
3. All racers will be able to drop the lowest two point scores at the end of the season (2 drops)
4. In the case of an event being cancelled, no points will be awarded and that event will not be able to be used as a drop race as in Rule 3 above.
5. A DNS (Did Not Start) will be given to any racer who fails to complete one lap in a main race.
6. A DNS result will receive 0 (zero) points.
7. A DNF (Did Not Finish) will be given to any racer who fails to complete the allotted time for the race.
8. A DNF result will receive the points for their appropriate finishing position in that main.

Track
1. Track marshals are not permitted to do major repair work on cars under any circumstances.
2. Driving of cars outside of the designated track area is not permitted without the race directors permission.
3. The start of a race may be delayed if there is a need for a track repair.
 

Marshalling
1. All drivers must marshal the following heat or race after his/her own race.
2. A driver is considered absent from his/her marshalling duties when the next race starts.
3. Each missed marshalling session may result in a penalty.
4. Major repairs of cars while marshalling is prohibited.
5. All marshals must wear closed toe footwear.
6. Marshals will be responsible for ensuring that no spectator is within 6 feet of the outer track barrier and that spectators are outside the safety fencing at the sweeper if provided, also, that no pit crew is allowed on the racing surface and that no person will be allowed to be sitting, squatting, or lying on the ground near the track.

Time Certain Schedule

From the beginning of the raceday to the end, every effort will be made to avoid delays at the start of each race and between races/rounds. This will require all able bodied racers to all pitch in for track setup and teardown, as well as being on time for registration, marshalling, the start of their race, and any other duty assigned. With the exception of an extrodinary event, the JLap program will be set to run the raceday and there will be no “mercy minutes”. Additional time may be saved by changingthe barrier system to make it easier and quicker to set up. Any suggestions to make a quicker setup and teardown will gladly be accepted by the race director. It will be everyone’s responsibility to cooperate to avoid delays. If time permits a third qualifier may be run to be decided before the mains are sorted.
