RROL News & Updates

Sep 8 - With a fair to middling forecast we were pleasantly surprised to actually have one of the best weather days of the year for Points Race #8. It was sunny and warm with just the hint of a breeze to keep it comfortable resulting in a track with unbelievable grip.

The good weather brought out some good numbers, with 14 cars registered in the M Class. Jeff Corsault took TQ with a 15 lap run in 5:14. Etienne Marcoux was second with Dan Engelbreth and Bart Garner close behind. Kevin Hill was 5'th, Kevin Parsons was 6'th and Cory Claypole rounded out the field. It was a good clean race with little contact and few mistakes. In fact, the finish matched the start exactly.

In the M Class B Main, Derek Marker took the top spot followed by Ryan Parsons and Ben Smith in a race of attrition. Newcomer Jamie Barrett survived 6 laps to take 4'th while Richard Garner managed only 4 laps with an ill handling, traction rolling car. First time driver Jeff Cowell took advantage of the offer to drive the AVF car. Jeff stayed out of trouble in the qualifiers but fell victim to a lost screw in the Main and did not complete a lap.

There were 9 cars in 10 turn so we ran two heats of 5 and 4 cars respectively. Jeff Corsault TQ'd with a 20 lap run in 5:12 followed by Dan Engebreth with a 19 lap run in 5:01.11. Etienne Marcoux qualified 3'rd followed by Bart Garner and Kevin Hill. The race finished as it started after a rough start, with Dan, Bart and Kevin all hitting start line at about the same moment. There was no damage, but there was some bouncing around. Dan got away cleanly and Kevin snagged 4'th from Bart, then held it for the first 1/3 of the race.

Nitro was again a small field with Lou Vanderwey, Wayne Vince and Frank Munzer all MIA. Dan Engelbeth took TQ and the Main win followed by Barry Story. Derek Marker was a DNS.

With 2 points races left, Jeff Corsault has a commanding lead in the M Class as well as 19 Turn. Wayne Vince is nearly unbeatable in 19 Turn but has unfortunately missed 3 races and with only 2 drops it looks like we will be crowning a new champion this year.

The situation is the same in Nitro with Dan leading Wayne and Lou by virtue of solid runs and a better attendance record. Across the 3 classes there are only a couple of positions in the top 5 which are likely to change barring disaster. Etienne Marcoux is only 1 point behind Dan Engelbreth in 19T and Bart Garner finds himself just 2 points behind Kevin Hill after a couple of disastrous weekends.

Aug 25 - We had a good turnout today, in spite of a conflicting schedule that had Wayne Vince, Jeff Corsault and Lou Vanderwey missing from action. Etienne Marcoux again set fast time in the M Class and followed up with a win, edging out Dan Engelbreth by 2 seconds in a 14 lap run. Kevin Hill drove a steady clean race to take third followed by Adam Hutchison and Kevin Parsons. We had a newcomer out this week - Welcome to Akira Campbell who ran some laps in Qualifying but left before the Main.

Etienne pulled a Wayne this week, TQ'ing and winning in two classes. His 18 lap run in 5:03 was good enough to take the TQ position in 19T and he clinched the deal with an 18 lap Main in 5:00 flat. Dan Engelbreth and Kevin Hill again took 2'nd and 3'rd respectively, followed by Bart Garner, Con Vangalen and Richard Garner. Dylan Christo took a DNS.

In Nitro Touring, Dan Engelbeth took advantage of the missing 'big dogs' to take TQ and the Main win. Adam Hutchison turned in a fine 29 lap run to take second place. Adam is getting up to speed in a hurry and should be competing tightly with Dan by the end of the season. Derek Marker was 3'rd while Frank Munzer took a DNS.

Aug 11 - It must be peak vacation time. The numbers were down a bit this week, but not a lot. Notably absent was Team Vangalen, which can put a real dent in the 19T class.

In the M Class, Jeff Corsault and Etienne Marcoux continued their season long battle for supremacy with Jeff taking TQ this time and then following up with the win with a 14 lap run to Etienne's 13. Kevin Hill, Richard Garner and Kevin Parsons rounded out the top 5, each with a 12 lap run.

Ryan Parsons and Tori Garner were 6'th and 7'th with good clean 10 lap runs. Ben Smith and Derek Marker both DNF'd while Bart Garner took a DNS. Five cars in two classes was more than the NTech mechanic could handle today.

In 19T Wayne again topped Jeff Corsault for TQ and the main win with 19 laps. Dan Engelbreth took 3'rd, followed by Etienne and Bart, who both had disastrous qualifiers. It was lucky for both that there was no B main today. 3'rd through 5'th all ran 17 laps.

Jul 22 - 401 TC Challenge Race Report - HERE

Jul 21 - There was lot's going on today at the RROL Home Depot track. With the 401 TC on the 22'nd some out of towners showed up to lay down some laps on the track to get prepared. For club members, not only was the racing discounted, but we got to pick our best run between Saturday and Sunday for points.

In the M Class, Jeff Corsault took TQ and followed up with the Main win over Etienne Marcoux. Both ran 15 laps. Kevin Hill, with a 14 lap run, moved up from a 5'th place qualifying effort to take 3'rd over Richard Garner by 5 seconds, Bart Garner was just a second behind. Dan Engelbreth also ran 14 laps in 6'th. Tori Garner had a good clean 11 lap run for 7'th. Derek Marker completed only 7 laps and took a DNF.

In Nitro we had 9 cars which were split into two heats. Wayne Vince TQ'd, then ran 60 laps in the A Main to take the win over Fastcats regular, Ty Grant. Ty ran 57 laps but his fastest lap was 1/10'th quicker than Waynes. The stage is set for a great race at the 401. Ross Chiaramonte was third (53 laps), followed by Gervais Grant (51) and Mitch Medeiros who dropped out after only 29 laps.

Dan Engelbreth took the B main win with a 35 lap run followed by Derek Marker, Frank Munzer and Justin Blythe.

Only 8 cars turned out for 19T. Wayne again TQ'd followed by Jeff Corsault, Dan Engelbreth and Etienne Marcoux. In the main, the top 4 positions stayed the same. Kevin Hill capitalized when Bart Garner caught the front stretch wall tearing off both left side tires and moved to 5'th. Frank Munzer moved to 6'th when the second NTech car, piloted by Richard Garner, also met the wall

Jul 7 - The cars came back this week and the heat was turned up in every class. Eleven M Class cars were divided into two heats. Jeff Corsault won back to back in his qualifiers setting the TQ pace at 16 laps in 5:04 and upping it in the A Main with a 17 lap run in 5:16. Bart Garner trailed him all day by about a lap in both qualifiers and the A Main. Kevin Hill qualified 3'rd but faded to 5'th in the Main, trailing Brian Crosby (welcome back Croz!) and Dan Engelbreth. Richard Garner was 6'th.

The M Class is proving to be a real momentum class. Competition is so tight for most positions and the difference between cars is so minute that the slightest mistake is becoming the difference between 2'nd and 5'th. The cars are easy to drive and very stable, making for some very tight racing.

In the M Class B Main, Cory Claypole ran 15 laps, taking the win by a lap over Dan Douglas who was followed closely across the line by Mitchell Vetor. Ben Smith and Tori Garner rounded out the field. Tori had been running 4'th until she encountered problems with a loose battery connection. She had better get after that mechanic of hers!

When a truck parked in the middle of our track this week leaving some nasty ruts in the pavement it necessitated a minor track redesign resulting in some very fast lap times. Wayne Vince was TQ with a 22 lap run but 2'nd place qualifier Andy Vetor edged him out in the Main by a 4 second margin. Wayne was followed by Jeff Corsault in 3'rd and Dan Engelbreth in 4'th. Steve Vangalen had another great run this week snagging 5'th. Cory Claypole and Kevin Hill took the next two positions with Bart Garner falling to 8'th with a seized motor.

Con Vangalen took the B Main with a 19 lap run, good enough for 5'th in the A. Dylan Christo took 2'nd, followed by Richard Garner and Dan Douglas.

In Nitro, Wayne Vince got some revenge for his loss to Lou last week at the Canadian Nitro Championships taking TQ and the win. Dan Engelbreth followed in 3'rd. We had 6 Nitro's out again this week with Adam Hutchinson, Derek Marker and Barry Story putting in laps with their new toys.

It's always fun to watch Lou and Wayne battle on the track. Neither make many mistakes and both have immaculately prepared cars for every run. It's an honour that they choose to run with us every week. They elevate our game with their help and example.

Jun 23 - With some competition from a couple of trophy races in the region today's field was small again, but no less competitive.

Ten cars filled the field in the M Class. Jeff Corsault picked up where he left off last week taking the top qualifying spot and sealing the deal in the main. Jeff cleaned up, taking the win by 2 laps over Dan Engelbreth. It was tight for 2'nd through 4'th though with Bart Garner just 1 second behind Dan at the line and Kevin Hill just 3 seconds back in 4'th. Young Mitchell Vetor showed the apple does not fall far from the tree with a solid 5'th place finish from a 12 lap run.

With Wayne Vince absent, TQ and the win were wide open in 19 Turn. Jeff Corsault had his hopes dashed with the appearance of Andy Vetor - always a front runner. Andy took TQ with a 19 lap run in the first Qualifier and took the win by a scant 2/10'ths of a second over Jeff. Steve Vangalen followed in third, edging out Bart Garner but getting an extra lap in the process.

Dan had a rough day in 19T as did Richard Garner. Neither finished a race all day and Dan was a DNS in the main. The low turnout helped Richard at least salvage a decent points day.

Only two Nitro cars were out. Wayne Vince and Lou Vanderwey both opted to run the Canadian Nitro Championships in Hamilton. They did RROL proud as usual with Wayne taking TQ and Lou taking the win. Congrats guys! Dan took the win over newcomer Derek Marker.

Jun 2 - Numbers were down a bit this week, especially in the Mini class so the 19T class had the best turnout with 9 cars. Wayne Vince again led the way in Qualifying with a 19 lap run in 5:10. Uncharacteristically though Wayne had troubles in the main, opening the door for Etienne Marcoux and Jeff Corsault to duke it out for the top spot. Etienne got it by less than 2 tenths with a 17 lap run in 5:06.755. Dan Engelbreth was third.

In the B Main Steve Vangalen beat Dylan Christo and Frank Munzer by a lap. Con Vangalen sat out the day waiting for a new ESC.

In the Mini Class it was all Jeff Corsault as he TQ'd and took the win with a 13 lap run. John Hoy of the Great Canadian Hobbies Team placed second followed by Dan Engelbreth and Etienne Marcoux. Lee Glick was 5'th. The cars in this class may be a little slower but the class is no less competitive. 6'th place was only one lap off the win.

Six cars filled the field for the Nitro Touring class. It's good to see this class making a comeback. Wayne Vince TQ'd and toolk the win by a scant 2 seconds over Lou Vanderway in the 15 minute Main. The rest of the field all suffered from one problem or another. Dan placed 3'rd but barely made it past the second pit stop. Justin Blythe is working on getting the bugs out of his new nitro sedan and was really just putting in laps after a late start. Lee Glick qualified 3'rd but fell out early.

May 19 - Well, after a late start due to some cold wet weather throughout April and early May, the 2007 RROL Touring Car Series finally got underway.

The new M Class was the largest field today - that's great news for the future. Etienne Marcoux, who may be new to the club, but is no stranger to an RC Car set the pace in the main. Etienne set the M Class standard with 14 laps in 5:08, followed by Dan Engelbreth and Bart Garner. Lee Glick, who has joined us for the season from Toronto finished 4'th.

We ran two heats for the M Class, but combined them all into one race for the Main. The added traffic made it a lot of fun.

The Nitro's are back and Team XRay driver Wayne Vince has gotten up to speed in a hurry. Wayne TQ'd with 20 laps to Lou Vanderwey's 19, followed by Dan Engelbreth and Lee Glick. Lou broke early in the main, spoiling what was shaping up to be a great fight between he and Wayne and allowing Dan and Lee to podium in week one. Newcomer Frank Monzer put in some practice laps this week, getting ready for next week.

As was the case much of the time last year, the best race of the day was the 19T B Main. Con Vangalen won by just 1.3 seconds over Cory Claypole with Richard Garner and Dylan Christo rounding out the field. The best part was they all finished on the same lap and positions were changing right down to the end. Dylan's last place finish does not tell the story at all. He led over half the race and turned in the second quickest lap in the race.

The 19T A Main had to be hand counted due to some technical difficulties with the JLap system. Wayne Vince once again TQ'd and won, followed by Bart Garner and Kevin Hill. Etienne Marcoux, who qualified 3'rd got off to a rough start in the Main, spinning a couple of times in the first lap and suffering some terminal damage. Dan's new Novak ESC self destructed at the call to the line resulting in a DNS.
